Swanning around

Swans have featured a lot in my life recently.

Swans in the green pond at Wanstead:

Swans ganging up on some Madeleines at a tea party:

Jodie’s dancing swans:

Coincidentally, I found a pattern to make a crochet swan doily at a car boot sale so I got my hooks out. Here are some pictures of the work in progress and then the finished piece…

UKTI mission to Japan

Posted on Sunday, November 20th, 2011

Last week I had the fortune of visiting Tokyo as part of the annual UK Trade and Investments mission along with 17 other companies.  I had a super week crammed full of shop tours, showcases and of course sushi.  On the Tuesday and Wednesday we had a showcase for industry folk at the Vulcanize shop in Aoyama where I showed pieces from the latest SS12 collection ‘A-Lu-Ha’.

I was able to catch up with my agents on their home turf and they took me around some of the boutiques in Tokyo who are stocking Lu Flux this season.  The first boutique to visit was Studio Sympathique.

Much to my happiness when we arrived at Lamp in Harajuku, one of the sales assistants was wearing a Lu Flux Muller-Lyer apron dress, she looked cute – “kawaii!”

And the last boutique, shop CABARET, gave us caramel tea along with Tunnocks tea cakes while we talked about life in London.

Other things we saw in Tokyo street life were a man being filmed with a bottle of squash on his head

A dog that looked like a Sylvanian Family character

And a dog dressed as Sherlock Holmes.

I only realised on the last night how carried away I had got with all of the nonessential Japanese gifts!

Thank you to all the lovely people that I met for their hospitality and showing us around Tokyo.  I look forward to seeing you all again soon in Japan!

Millies Cookie’s for London Fashion Week SS12

Posted on Monday, September 26th, 2011

Millie’s Cookies recently contacted us about creating a design for their new limited-edition Cookie Couture Collection, especially for London Fashion Week this September. We obviously jumped at the opportunity – and ended up being one of the four chosen to be created into a 12 inch, pizza sized cookie!

We designed an iced cookie in keeping with our Spring/Summer 2012 collection ‘A-Lu-Ha’, using a Tiki mask and Hawaiian flowers. Thanks to Millie’s Cookies we were able to have one on the stand with us while we exhibited during Fashion Week, sitting next to the Tiki mask designs in the collection.

This is our original design that we sent to Millie’s Cookies, and below are the 3 other lucky winners with their own cookie designs. They will be available in all Millie’s Cookie stores across the UK until the 3rd October. All cookies will donate 10% of sales to the designers chosen charity – ours is Dementia UK.

Fashion 156 Collaboration

Posted on Monday, September 26th, 2011

Fashion156.com has launched its exclusive range of designer t-shirts and we were lucky enough to collaborate with them. Other designers who were chosen included Maria Francesca Pepe, Yang Du, Cooperative Designs, William Richard Green, Fannie Schiavoni and Fanny and Jessy.

We wanted to design something that meant a lot to us, so chose to use a tiger for our imagery. We were moved after reading about the imminent extinction of wild tigers due to habitat loss and poaching. We used vintage floral fabrics as the patchwork for his fur to give him his Lu Flux quintessence. We hope you like him as much as we do!

You can purchase your very own tiger t-shirt, along with the other designers T-shirts from the Fashion156 shop for £49.99, however be quick as there are only 15 available!

Bright Light Bright Light

Posted on Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Mr. Rod Thomas, the Welsh songwriter, producer, remixer and multi instrumentalist behind Bright Light Bright Light has a new single out now called ‘Disco Moment’.  You can see Rod wearing the Landslide jacket from the SS11 collection on the artwork – available on iTunes at www.brightlightx2.com

Rod wore the Landslide jacket for the ‘Disco Moments’ music video too.   It also featured a green haired member of his troupe wearing the Critter leggings and Monster dress combination from the AW11 “Sea & Be Seen” collection.

Bright Light Bright Light is no stranger to wearing Lu Flux, looking very sultry when he wore the Secret Agent hand knit cable jumper for the cover of  his Limited Edition Tour EP.  Rod has enjoyed a wonderful year so far having performed on the same bill as Kelis at Bristol Pride in July, touring with Ellie Goulding and this September is performing at Bestival on my very own Isle of Wight.

Catwoman

Posted on Saturday, August 6th, 2011

My friend Judi Chan from Studio Tipi and Vanguard Works had the opening of her first solo exhibition last week at the Sideshow Gallery in Edmonton, Canada. The exhibition called Take Me Home showcases her wonderful pencil drawings of her cat Ringo. Of course I couldn’t be there but word on the grapevine is that it was a big success.  For the opening Judi wore a Lu Flux Softscape dress from the SS11 collection and she looked delightful.

Here are some pictures of Chiaki.  She is a Japanese actress and television presenter who has been spotted in a couple of Lu Flux pieces.  You can see her blog here.
